I have a 7 week old kitten named "Grandma" (she looks like a little old lady:~). I believe she was the runt of her litter, but she seems extremely small. She still fits in the palm of my hand. A couple of her siblings were 3-4 times her size. She is just now (within the last few days) starting to eat food. Her activity seems good, and she is absolutely a very friendly little cat. What I am wondering is if she might possibl;y be a "dwarf" (?).
Thanks for any input!
Is my kitten's size normal?
It's very common for one kitten to be the runt of the litter. If she seems otherwise healthy, her size will probably not be an issue. I have a brother/sister pair (now 9 years old) and the brother is nearly three times as large as the sister.
I hope you are planning to have the mother cat spayed before she delivers any more kittens!
Reply:When we adopted my kitten she weighed 2pounds and so they thought she was 2 months old. She ate very little. Then I took her to the vet and it turns out she had a kitty cold and massive ear mites. After some meds and love she gained 3 pounds really fast, so she was really a little older and just sick. Make sure a good vet checks her out soon : )
Reply:verry much soo normal. if she's only 7 wks and was the runt, being little is expected. her not eating her food could be her just getting used to her surroundings. it takes a while. but no...i dont think there are... dwarf...cats... just small runts!!!
Reply:Very doubtful, more than likely she is simply the runt of the litter.
Reply:That could be a possibility. It's rare but could happen. She is more likely just a runt.
Reply:She's still very young.
Let her go thru a heat before spaying her so she will be a little bigger %26amp; get secondary sex traits.
Enjoy her...I'm not familiar with dwarf cats.
Reply:yes i think so but ask the vet
