Missouri State discipline laws???

I live in South East Missouri and my kids are in school here.

We have a child service provider lady in our home right now and she has just told us that Missouri state laws says that spanking is not against the law but no paddles, belts or what ever can be used. It must only be with the open palm and no more than two -three swats not too hard.

Heres my question: Im not against this I really support it,but why does my kid's school have the right to use a paddle and give more than three swats?

My son and daughters principle has used the paddle a few times with up to five swats by her own admission.

Missouri State discipline laws???
The schools would have you believe that teachers are trained disciplinarians, and that ten swats with a paddle from them is like only half a swat from you, and ten times as effective. This, of course, is BS, but as long as the majority of kids that they beat are too afraid to go home and tell their parents out of fear of further punishment, then they'll continue to get away with it.

Of course, some schools will call the parents just to rub it in...

I remember when I was in school, we had this shop teacher (in sixth grade) who was very fond of the paddle. He really enjoyed those 10 swat beatings, and he hit hard. One girl showed me bruises that she had on her butt from the paddle, and they were as red as a Fazoli's tomato.

He's dead now. Serves him right. Him and his handlebar mustache are six feet under. Heart attack. I guess all the stress from beating numerous children finally got to him.

The thing is, teachers like that are not a rarity, and the other teachers tend to turn a blind eye to the situation.

As for the person above... you know that note that you sign? They tend to "lose" those things when its convenient. I was too afraid of telling my mother about most of my paddlings, and come to find out after I got out of school that she'd sent in one of those notes. They never called her or anything.

Personally, I think discipline belongs in the home, not at some state-run school. People need to understand that there's a difference between a spanking and a beating, and that not spanking your children at times CAN be abuse. However, I don't think that teachers, who are not family, have any right whatsoever to paddle students.
Reply:Good question. You need to write your state senator about that one.I don't know this was a law here. That's a definite double standard,to say the least.
Reply:its just crazy that you live anywhere were that could happen, where Im from the teachers could lose their job and face prosecution for even *talking* about things like that.

just march down there and make it clear in no uncertain terms that if they even think about laying a finger on your kids you will smash their face in.

seriously, that is just 100% unacceptable in a civilised country. grrr you got me angry and up on my little soapbox now lol !
Reply:I would seriously contest that. Take it to the school superintendent and if that goes nowhere contact the Governor, Senator, and Attorney General. Keep nagging and writing and eventually they'll give in. I also live here in Missouri and I've found out that contacting the higher ups can be quite effective.

This is one of the many reasons why we home school.
Reply:I don't know, but I live in SEMO also and when I was younger my parents would spank me with a belt when I got out of line.

I never got in trouble at school, but I see nothing wrong with paddlings from a teacher / principal.

I will do the the same to my children, if you don't they will walk all over you, besides when school starts they always send a note home to get written permission from the parents to paddle your children.

You could have just signed no. If you did sign no and your children still got paddle you could have a good lawsuit.
